Share your Maker Story: How/why did you start?
- After her best friend Natalie suggested a weekly drawing session, Melissa found herself diving deeper into her art. Inspired by other artists like Emma Carlisle, she discovered a love for drawing on location and capturing everyday beauty.
What are your proudest achievements or milestones?
- Melissa’s biggest achievements are the consistency and growth she’s found in her art practice. She now loves sketching on the go and even exploring memory and imagination in her work – two things she’d always wanted to try!
Have you faced any challenges, and how did you overcome them?
- Finding a consistent art practice was a challenge, but with her friend Natalie’s support and the inspiration from other artists, Melissa embraced the joy of regular practice and has grown so much in both skill and confidence.
What are your future plans for being a Maker?
- Melissa is excited to keep experimenting, trying larger works, and evolving her art style. She hopes to dive even deeper into storytelling through her illustrations and share the beauty of her unique perspective with a wider audience.
What tips/advice would you share with other Makers?
- “Explore new places, try different subject matters, and just make art for the fun of it! Find some other artists to draw and paint with – even online – to keep each other inspired and motivated. Sometimes, having someone else there is all you need to get started!”
